Studio Time   325 E. Mulberry Street   Fort Collins, CO   (970) 682-2668

I just discovered this great little place and had to share it with you!

Studio Time is a place for artists to hang out and to create. They have a recording studio, a computer lab, photography studio, editing studio, video room and a commons room where you can just hang out and work on projects.

Use of the studios is on an hourly or a monthly membership basis, and the commons area is free to use. (Regular -not espresso- coffee and tea are free while you're there too)

Here are some pictures of their studios;

AIGA CO Logo

Got something to say? A project or art piece to show? Send it in to our student designed magazine, Point !

This issue's theme: communication breakdown

We are looking for feature articles, interviews, tips, artwork, a cover design, and volunteers for our upcoming issue. We are planning to assemble the magazine over the course of a weekend with students from all over the state using your content. If you are interested in creating content, volunteering to art direct, would like to help the students put it all together or if you have an idea please contact us.
In the past we have recruited students from ft lewis, csu, mscd, rmcad, the art institute, unc as well as acc and front range community colleges. In an effort to reach out the the entire AIGA Colorado membership we would like to encourage all members to submit content for our upcoming fall 2011 issue "communication breakdown."
In writing about the theme "communication breakdown;"
You may address the downward spiral of the economy, our political structure, forms and wayfinding systems we encounter on a daily basis, applications and social networks that connect us; how can graphic design improve the communications of everyday life in an age of information overload?
We usually feature 4-6 articles based on the theme and also include the following departments
  • Get to the point: a list of relevant web site and resources
  • Picks: websites, tutorials, inspirations, books, apps
  • Show and tell gallery: a place to show off your current work and indulge in some shameless self-promotion
  • Tech tips: have you found a new keyboard shortcut or power-user technique?
  • Lingo: what is the latest word or phrase or sms shorthand
  • Q&A interview: pick a local celeb, designer, art director, or proprietor of a cool shop and let them have a say
Submission is open to all AIGA Colorado members. We encourage you to write, pickup your camera, draw, create a layout, paint, and give us your best thinking on the subject of how graphic design can solve the communication breakdown. What can we as designers bring to the party to solve problems like public transportation, helping libya establish a new government, making boarding passes more readable, designing the ultimate "how to" instructions, designing the next mars rover

C² Sessions

The C² sessions consist of many different elements. C² sessions are setup and held to serve the artist and the artist community.

Activities might include art critiques, discussions, speakers, demonstrations, and cool events. It's a great place to network, make friends with other artists, and delve into the many areas of interest in the art world, both written and visual.

It is also a time to receive additional help or advice when you are struggling with your design or project, software programs, technical issues, etc. There is always someone available to help during C² sessions!

Where: FRCC-Larimer, MA 171

What to bring: Please bring in your artwork or projects to share with the larger group. Also, there is a limited amount of MAC computers in MA 171, so if you have a laptop, please bring it along.

NEXT C² SESSSION IS OCTOBER 14TH

Congratulations!

We have two winners for the Poster/Tagline Contest!

FRC² will display both poster designs on campus in various locations to advertise our group throughout the year.

We would like to thank all our participants that submitted entries into the FRC² poster/tagline contest!

Even though Poster 3 was not a winner, we have ask Staci Reed to use her poster submission to advertise our upcoming event, "Being a Green Artist" on October 28th.

She may use her poster design as a portfolio piece in her prospective portfolio, as well.

Sumo Sissies Tattoo

Here is what I have been up to this last month! I was commissioned by my daughters to come up with a design that they could use for their sister tattoo.

I incorporated their initials c for Courtney, d for Dennielle, and l for Lanie into the design along with a 2 "S" letters. I am turning this design into a logo for them as well. Their brand is going to be called the "Sumo Sissies" (aka The Matsumoto Sisters).

Many, many years ago, when my husband was a wild Hawaiian boy, he decided that he would get a tattoo on his arm. As the tattoo artist started the old way of doing island tattoos, my husband quickly changed his mind because it hurt so bad. So, needless to say, he has a small, tiny dot on his arm. To incorporate the girls' father into the design, I used the dot as a symbolic token of love for their dear old dad!

Each dot represents each sister's favorite color as well as status in the family:
The pink dot is Dennielle-the oldest sister
The orange dot is Courtney-the middle sister
The green dot is Lanie-the littlest sister

The design takes the form of a blossom with the dots representing water dipping! This also means that each sister will always be nourished with the never ending promise to one another. I did a lot of research on Maori and Hawaiian tribal tattoos, and try to stick with the island feel for their design.

I wasn't quite sure if I would be able to nail a design that all of them could agree on because each one is so picky and each one has their own ideas, but needless to say, I must be one hell of a graphic artist because I presented the design to them they all were very happy. excited, and no one had any changes. A couple of days later, they were getting the design tattooed on them forever to symbolize their love for one another, and to be forever bonded in sisterhood!

I hope you enjoyed this little tidbit of news from all of us at the Matsumoto household!
